Our Maine Coon veterans

Our veterans

The veterans of Home in Raksi are the Maine Coons who built the cattery: they won at shows and gave us the lines we breed from today. Each of them has a character of his own and a special place in our family.

Fyodor: BEST CAT 2017 MCO WCF

At the 2015 World Show, held here in St Petersburg, Fyodor completed his World Champion title.

He is magnificent. He won the highest title at that prestigious world event, and on top of it he was named best of his breed by winning the Maine Coon breed show.

Two years later, at the end of May 2017, our city hosted another world show: WCF Cat Olimpia & World Show 2017, Saint Petersburg, 27–28 May.

Each country gets a licence for only one World Show a year. Russia is big, so it used to hold two a year, one in the European part and one beyond the Urals. The WCF Cat Olimpia, though, happens once a year in a single member country of the World Cat Federation. In 2017 that country was Russia.

Fyodor did it again. He won the Maine Coon breed show once more and also took top places in the other rings.

He came third in the World Champions Master Ring, against 36 World Champions of all breeds at the show.

In the adult all-breed Master Ring, open only to cats that won rings during the year, Fyodor came third out of 74 entries. The judge was Olga Sergeyevna Mironova.

(For a Maine Coon, third place from Mironova means a great deal…)

On both days of the World Show he was nominated for BEST, the final show of the day where only cats the judges pick from each breed take part. On the second day he was Best Opposite Sex in the semi-longhair group.

And in the adult all-breed ring of 60 cats he was the only Maine Coon to make the top ten, finishing fifth. I think that's a pretty good result too.

At that Olimpia Fyodor scored the most points of anyone. After winning a few more shows during the year, he finished with more points than any other Maine Coon in the ranking, from any country. That made him BEST CAT 2017 MCO, number one. Across all breeds he was eighth. And there are a lot of cat breeds…

The award was presented at the next WCF Cat Olimpia & World Show 2018, in Belgium. It is the biggest result we have ever had.

Russia has wonderful cats and, quite possibly, the best Maine Coons. We have a lot to be proud of. It's a real pity that first the pandemic and then the events of 2022 have kept our cats from showing properly. Russia no longer gets licences for World Shows, and showing abroad is difficult, so… we're waiting for better times.

Meanwhile… Fyodor is 12 now and weighs 9.3 kg. That's a good weight for a mature, fully grown male, and even at that size his ears haven't splayed. A powerful body on long legs, a correct head with a good profile and a superb show temperament kept him a worthy Maine Coon at every show we entered in Russia.

We show under FIFe as well as WCF.

In 2016 Fyodor completed his Supreme Champion FIFe title, the highest title in that federation.

On points for 2016, Fyodor was sixth among cats of all breeds in Russia that year, which earned him the title NATIONAL WINNER 2016 FIFe. The title goes to the top fifteen cats each year, and a cat can win it only once in its show career.

Fyodor also holds the Distinguished Variety Merit (DVM) title, given for outstanding results in a colour. To get it, a cat has to be best in its colour (BIV) at least 10 times; for him that meant beating all the solid black and blue Maine Coons. Fyodor won BIV more than 20 times. His type is very good, but what really sets him apart from other cats of this wonderful breed is his colour. Cats this deeply, completely black are very rare, and every judge who had Fyodor on the table said so. No rufism at all, colour right down to the roots. It is an unusually beautiful colour, and the best part is that he passes it on: his kittens are born solid black.

Distinguished Merit (DM) is another title Fyodor received fairly recently, in 2024, for outstanding contribution to breeding. It goes to breeding cats with at least 10 offspring titled ICh or higher. Nice… Fyodor has more than 10 such offspring, and their titles are higher than that. Good boy.

Our Fedya is our pride. He won Best of Best at shows many times. Now his children are winning too.

Ujin is a wonderful cat. He made Supreme Champion with ease, the highest title in FIFe. Then came the pandemic, closed borders, and that was that… A real shame. Ujin is a veteran now. He could still be shown, but we have Frenkie, and more about him in a moment…
